The CO Safety System can have up to four bio-mimetic detectors of CO that sound an alarm when low levels over time or high levels in a short time are detected. These detectors are "read" by the brain, which then shuts down the furnace and can also signal the Alarm Service and Fire Department. The system includes the central monitoring and control unit that can be installed in any convenient location throughout the residence with a single CO detector. While this central control unit is designed to be installed by a trained service technician, its terminals are color-coded and designed for easy installation by individuals with minimum skills.
Three additional CO detectors can be attached to the central unit by wire or wireless, providing redundant detection capability and the ability to monitor CO levels in various parts of the residence. This can offer further protection if the CO buildup is caused by a source other than the furnace: a poorly vented fireplace, an attached garage, etc.
Included in the package are the base unit and one CO detector. Up to three additional detectors can be purchased for attachment to the base unit.
The design meets Underwriter Laboratories (UL) specifications.
